I've been trying to remember my login email address and password to MySpace for like 2 years, because I wanted to teleport some of my blog from like 4+ years ago onto here. But I've been continuously stymied.
Tonight, I quick decide to try again. Put in an email/password combo I thought for sure I'd tried a dozen times. Boom, first shot. First attempt. I'm in. So its my pleasure to bring you the first of a series, which I created the name for by blatantly ripping off an NBC Summer reruns slogan from about a decade ago, called "If You Haven't Read This, Its New To You!"
Basically, these are all posts from quite a while ago, that I wrote, but they are appearing here to live on in undead form. Like transporting my soul into a machine post-singularity (There you go Kurzweil, told you I could work it in!), my past has come back with more life than my present. Without Further Ado:

Current mood:cynical
It
is my theory that political partisanism is on equal footing with racism
and homophobia, and 2nd only to the intolerance inherent within
organized religion (which often breeds all three of the shared number
two slot holders) in holding most of the responsibility for all that
makes this world terrible which is within our control. I'd go so far as
to say that out of all that exists on this planet whether it is natural,
manmade, or otherwise, those 4 concepts alone are almost exclusively
responsible for the continued breeding of hatred for fellow humans, for
the thinking that one's own form of idealism can actually be superior,
and the emphatic deliberate expansion of differences and promotion of
that which divides us as a species as "what is really important."
Religion
is ultimately responsible for so much of the war, the murder, the
hatred, the suicide, the depression, parents hating their children,
children hating their parents..... But the reason that religion and the
generally accepted set of prejudices that most of them hand out as
"facts" to people is almost in a different category by itself is that it
also breeds the concepts of homophobia, racism, and partisanship in
politics, the three ideas I see as equally rotten.
Because,
to anybody with a mind of their own, free of intense social or family
pressure to take up the torch of hatred like they have, it is obvious
that racism and homophobia are miserable terrible scourges, I am going
to make my point specifically regarding the the most sinister of the
three; The brilliantly veiled form of hatred alive in American and I'm
sure the world at large today;
Political Partisanship--
From
the time we are young, whether participating in Mock elections in grade
school or getting teachers'/parents'/friends' encouragement to rally
and protest, we are taught to feel superior too or feel disdain for, and
even hate- yes hate- the other side of the two-winged
political creature we're all riding on. From the wing you allow yourself
to reside on, and others of course, it appears that everyone thinks
its easiest to judge the other side the farther they are from
it, despite having probably the least understanding of the other side
the further you are from it.... (IE, being extremely left/right wing)..
Rather then learn to live, and love together wherever we are at in the
political spectrum, hatred is the easy route, regardless of how
destructive. Can you think of anything existent in society that has done
half the damage, half the terrible deeds which intolerance and hatred
have brought about?
There
are hundreds of millions of people, with hundreds of millions od ideas
and concepts and viewpoints that all differ from one another in this
country.
We
are shown on Sesame Street that we're all different, inside and out,
and we should all appreciate diversity and celebrate that which we have
both in common and that which we are unique for with our friends and
strangers alike.
Yet,
while all this is going on, we are slowly being pushed by outside
influences to join what, for all intents and purposes that matter in the
political spectrum, to narrow our own existence and personal focus down
to one of two choices;
Right
Wing or Left Wing. Republican or Democrat. Elephant or Donkey. Does
this not confuse anybody? Is there nobody that is pro-choice and small
government?** Is there nobody that wants a lot of social programs, but
wants to pay for it by cutting wasteful government spending? Is there
nobody that thinks affirmative action is a great concept, but ultimately
may be responsible for more hatred then the equality it creates? Nobody
who wants to regulate/legaize/tax drugs, end the drug war, and fund
health care AND income tax cuts with it?
I
mean, come on people. How can so many people so staunchly support ALL
THE SAME PRINCIPALS as the other ~100 million people in your party? How
can everything be so black and white?
Its
such a shame that the media are so totally blinded by, or supportive of
the partisanship and condescending, smug superiority problems that it
breeds in people who feel the "other side" has it all wrong, with the
typical thinking being "If those democrats/republicans weren't so stupid
they'd get it.... but they don't!" As the basis for why its OK to
hate/prejudge them so badly, it gives little reason to decide to get to
know a person of differnt ideals individually.
Its
the worst form of promoted prejudice there is, because even those who
believe they are champions for equality generally hate those across the
aisle from them, who appear so smitten by their own beliefs that its no
great leap to champion acceptance out of one side of your mouth, and
trash and abhor your fellow man on the grounds that he is part of whats
wrong with the world today.
If
you want your children to grow up without hating, and you want the
world to someday stop viewing everyone as black or white, Red or Blue,
Gay or Straight, destined for Hell or Saved....... We need to eliminate
the tendency from youth to say prejudice is terrible but then sanctify
all forms of it with political partisanship.
With
all this said, and my point made, if yuo would like to comment, please
consider answering one or more of these questions. I'm curious to know
how anybody can make the argument that political partisanship does more
good than harm.
Is
there anybody here, whatever your political leaning, who disagrees with
the preceding statements? If so, why? What about on a
not-you-personally scale, (because I'm sure YOU don't have any inherent
hatred for anybody, no matter HOW conservative/liberal
redneck/metrosexual they are etc etc.... ) but rather the parties as a
general whole, and the majority of the population and they set of
beliefs used as core principals? Have people forgot how to think for
themselves?
